HIS1023 SpTp: Global History I: to 1500

This introductory course surveys human history around the globe from the earliest human activities until 1500. We focus on the development of techniques of agriculture and growth of cities and complex economies, cultures and societies. We will consider the development of and interplay between peoples, kingdoms, civilizations and empires. Topics include warfare, economic development, gender and sexuality, slavery, migration, race and other concepts of difference, the growth of religions and belief systems, the relation of humans with the natural environment, and the history of disease.
