The Associate of Science in Computer Science (AS-CS) is a pathway for students to enter the computer science field (e.g., software developer, computer hardware engineer, computer systems analyst, entrepreneur, information security, computer programmer, etc.). These exciting fields and contribute to technological advancement and innovation. Instruction in computer science courses is project-based and highly interactive to encourage student exploration. The curriculum includes mathematics, programming, software design, and computer architecture as applied to existing and emerging computer system technologies. The requirements for the associate degree in Computer Science are the same for the first two years in the B.S. in Computer Science.  The degree can also be used as foundation for the B.A. in Communication and Entrepreneurial Leadership.

Upon completing the Associate of Science in Computer Science degree, graduates will be able to:

  • Analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution
  • Use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice
  • Function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal
  • Understand relevant professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues and responsibilities
  • Recognize the need for and demonstrate an ability to engage in continuing professional development

To earn the Associate of Science in Computer Science degree, students must complete 61 credits:

  • 21 credits of major required courses
    • 18 major required credits
    • 3 major required credits that also count toward general education
  • 28 additional credits to complete the general education requirements 
  • 15 credits of open electives

Major Requirements: 21 credits


Math requirement must be fulfilled by major requirement.

Additional General Education Core Requirements: 28 credits


25 credits plus 6 credits of major requirements that also fulfill general education requirements 

Open Electives: 15 credits


15 credits any level.
