The Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art (BA-SA) degree at Landmark College prepares artists for graduate work in MFA programs, jobs in art education, and professional roles in art-related fields. Our curriculum exposes students to a range of art disciplines, deepens their understanding of the arts in history and culture, and promotes the acquisition and refinement of technical skills.

To earn the BA-SA students must complete 122 credits which includes the general education core (31 credits not met by major requirements), 55 credits of additional major requirements, and 36 credits of open electives. Students must complete at least 45 credits at the 3000/4000 level.

General Education Requirements: 31 credits + 12 credits listed in major requirements that also fulfill general education requirements - Total 43 credits


 

Major Requirements: 55 credits (15 credits Liberal Studies + 16 credits Foundation Studio Art + 18 Credits Studio Art + 6 Credits Capstone)

Major Requirements: 24 credits

  • Studio Course: 3000 or 4000 level 3 credits
  • Studio Course: 3000 or 4000 level 3 credits
  • Studio Course: (Focus Area) 3000 or 4000 level 3 credits

Liberal Studies - 15 credits

HIS1031 History of World Art I (also a major requirement) 3 credits

HIS1032 History of World Art II 3 credits

Literature Must be 2000 level (LIT ) 3 credits

Humanities Must be 2000 level (HIS, PHI, REL) 3 credits

Social Science: Must be 2000 level (ANT, ECN, POL, PSY, SOC) 3 credits

Foundation Studio Requirements: 16 credits


Three of these credits also fulfills the Interpersonal Communication / Creative Expression requirement in the general core

Studio Art Requirement: 18 credits


18 credits (9 credits at the 3000/4000 level) in studio art (9 credits in a specific focus area):

  • Ceramics
  • Painting / Drawing
  • Photography
  • Time Based Media, including Sound Art and Video

Capstone: The major culminates in a final 6 credit capstone experience that enables students to apply their technical skills and critical knowledge in a self-directed and sustained process of art production that concludes in a public exhibition of a cohesive body of work.

Open Electives: 36 credits, (21 at the 2000 level and 18 at the 3000/4000 level)


12 credits at any level (Only 6 - 1 credit courses allowed)
