BIO2071 ST: Biotechnolgy Techniques


Biotechnology is defined as the exploration of biological processes for industrial and other purposes, especially the genetic manipulation of microorganisms to produce antibiotics, hormones, etc. This course provides and overview of basic biotechnology techniques, a historical overview of the breakthroughs that biotechnology has provided to the world of medicine and an opportunity for students to gain insights into the ethics of past, present, and future discoveries. These breakthroughs include: 1) the human genome project, 2) CRISPR cas-9, and 3) stem cell therapies, etc. This course will also show how understanding and breaking down the cascade of DNA - RNA - protein have led o many of the advances in biotechnology benefitting society today and in the future.
