PSY3051 Abnormal Psychology This course covers the history of abnormal psychology as a subject of psychology; it introduces the characteristics, treatment and diagnosis of recognized psychological disorders in the United States; and it looks at how culture and historical period contribute to concepts of disorder and mental health. The course explores, compares, and contrasts the ways that mental health and disorder are understood from biological, learning, cognitive, psychodynamic and cultural perspectives in psychology. Students in this course will advance their knowledge of mental health and disorder by reading influential works in the field and producing written analysis and synthesis of books and clinical case studies. Students must have completed three courses at the 2000 level, one of them in the Social Science discipline, with grades of C or higher, as prerequisites for this course. Students cannot receive credit for both PSY 2051 and PSY3051. Credits: 3.000
