THE1012 ST: Theater Appreciation

This course introduces students to the interdisciplinary art of creating theater. Students will first study theater’s history, context, and interdisciplinary nature, considering its place in our diverse society. They will explore how theater functions in society through readings, viewings, and lectures and learn the roles of actors, playwrights, directors, producers, designers, stage managers, and composers. Students will do hands-on assignments based on course content that encourages them to create and critique their and peers’ work. To foster an appreciation, the class will attend live professional theater performances in the region that relate directly to the material we study. This course fulfills the cultural seminar requirement for the Bachelor of Art in Integrated Arts major (BAIA). Credits: 3.000
