BIO1621 ST: Sensory Biology This course examines animal sensory systems through classroom lectures, activities, and laboratory investigations with human and non-human subjects. In addition to exploring taste, touch, smell, hearing, and sight, we will explore the vestibular sense (sense of balance and acceleration) and the proprioceptive sense (limb position sense). In addition, we will explore sensory systems in non-human animals such as echolocation, electroreception, and magnetoreception. Through the lens of a biologist, students will gain a deeper understanding of the extraordinary adaptations that enable survival of animals in their environments. From a human perspective, students will gain a physical understanding of the sensations that enrich, and sometimes complicate, our lives. Credits: 4.000
