EDU3013 ST: Neurodiversity in Culture and Commun

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the concept of neurodiversity. As our culture begins to recognize and appreciate cognitive diversity, this course examines neurodiversity as a movementand a way of being or moving through the world. We will attune ourselves to the various ways neurocognitive difference is claimed and portrayed through the analysis of films, news media, blogs, poetry and readings that explore current scholarship. In supporting our understanding of disability as a complex dimension of our lived experience, we will explore how neurodivergent people narrate their own lives and what it means to value neurodivergence. We will address its histories within autistic led activism and its expansion across other neurodivergent, nonautistic disability groups. As a form of activism, the concept of neurodiversity will be engaged with as a way to orient ourselves toward the world. Credits: 3.000
