CER3012 ST:Form, Function,Surface in Ceramics

Designed for students with a strong foundation and interest in ceramics, this advanced course will ask students to understand and critique the complex interplay of form, function, and surface in functional forms. Students will be expected to create forms that reflect this knowledge and extend their skills in both hand building and wheel throwing, as well as incorporate new skills, methods, and materials in applying surface treatments that match the form. Students should expect to spend a minimum of 4-6 hours per week in the studio outside class developing their work and should be comfortable working in a self-directed manner. Some of the core assignments will include creating a dinner set with a functioning cup, plate, and bowl (or other combinations), a tea set, and a larger garden vessel. Credits: 3
