THE1013 ST: Spoken Word

Students will explore poetry as a medium of written and spoken expression. They will appreciate poetry as a medium for authors to express commentary on the social issues of the times and learn the following literary techniques used by poets in their writing: metaphor, simile, symbolism, point of view, and interpreted meaning. Students will also identify and examine the significance of specific themes that manifest themselves in writings from around the world and draw parallels between the themes addressed in selected poems and the themes addressed in the literature read in class.
