LIT1011 ST: American Voices Most, but not all, citizens of The United States are descendants of immigrants, assimilating into and contributing to the broader pluralistic society. It is a large country where the details of daily lives and values can be very different, creating different goals that can come into conflict. This course will look at short works of literature and short memoirs written by a broad spectrum of Americans, both modern and historical. This will include writings from indigenous peoples, new and past immigrants, enslaved peoples and their descendants, and people from different religions, regions, and social classes. Students can expect to answer questions, write essays, and present on readings or family histories. The goal of this course is to gain a better understanding of the cultural richness in The Unites States and the many ways of experiencing life as an American. Credits: 3
