WAC1011 ST: Stretch Writing WAC1011 is the first-semester pass/fail credit elective course in a two-semester sequence to meet the WRT1011 requirement. This course introduces the core concepts of the college reading and writing, and students learn to construct writing that is clear, well-organized, and concise. While engaging in a series of shorter assignments, students will develop their reading and writing processes, applying these processes to a variety of genres and rhetorical structures. Students also strengthen their abilities as college readers by further developing their active and critical reading strategies to comprehend and analyze texts. The course explores the threshold concept that ‘Writing enacts and creates identities and ideologies”. Through reading and writing assignments about identity, students gain awareness of audience, purpose, and content and investigate the interconnected nature of reading, writing, and identity. Students who complete WAC1011 successfully will have working knowledge of what writing at the college level entails and will bring what they learn to the writing tasks required of them across disciplines.
