This course explores the ecology of microorganisms and their roles in natural and engineered environments. Students will examine topics such as microbial diversity, communication, and succession across various ecosystems as well as the impact of climate change and human activities on microbial ecosystems. Students will actively engage with primary and secondary research literature, develop analytical skills, and apply laboratory and microscopy-based techniques to investigate microbial communities.
