ECO2512 ST:Built by Nature: Eco of Animal Arch This course explores the fascinating ways animals build, create, and interact with structures in their environments, from microbial life to mammals. Starting with the symbiotic structures of lichens, we will move through the architectural marvels of insects, such as butterflies and bees, then study the nest-building behaviors of birds, and finally examine the complex engineering of beavers. Students will investigate the behavioral ecology, developmental biology, and evolutionary influences that drive these construction behaviors, developing a deeper understanding of how animals shape and are shaped by their habitats.
