HIS2029 PV:Rebels and Dictators in Latin America Rebels and Dictators in Latin America examines the history of political upheaval, authoritarian rule, and revolutionary movements in Latin America from the 19th century to the present. Students will explore major themes including the rise and fall of dictatorships, populist leaders, grassroots resistance, and the role of external influences in shaping political landscapes. The course will analyze case studies of figures such as Simon Bolivar, Porfirio Diaz, Eva Peron, Fidel Castro, and Augusto Pinochet, among others, while considering their impact on national and regional histories. Through primary and secondary sources, students will assess how narratives of rebellion and dictatorship have shaped Latin American identities and contemporary politics. This course provides valuable context for students interested in political history, Latin American history, and recent history of international relations in the Western Hemisphere. Credits: 3.000
