HIS3021 PV: Culture & Conflict Cold War America This course explores the United States from the end of World War II t o the present, with a focus on the cultural and political conflicts that defined the Cold War era and its aftermath. Students will analyze how these tensions influenced American identity, culture, and global engagement. This course is designed to deepen students’ understanding of modern U.S. History while sharpening skills in historical analysis, critical reading, and research. Key topics include the Cold War, the civil rights and women’s movements, the Vietnam War, consumer culture and suburbanization, the rise of conservatism, post-Cold War conflicts, and ongoing debates over America’s role in the world. As an upper-level elective, Culture & Conflict: Cold War America provides students from across the college with the opportunity to investigate primary and secondary sources, debate interpretations, and produce original arguments.
