The Bachelor of Science in Life Science (BS-LS) degree at Landmark College includes knowledge areas related to ecology, organismal and sub-organismal biology, natural resource management, data-driven decision making, and a strong foundation for the public health sector.  Students will engage in experiential opportunities to enrich professional behaviors, enhance collaboration, and develop and maintain large scale projects. The BS-LS is an extension of the College’s current A.S. in Life Science degree. Both degrees offer two tracks of study: Life Science and Environmental Biology.

Every student in Life Science becomes a member of our community of scholars, working closely together with faculty and peers to advance the field of biology and develop a life-long interest in life science. The curriculum emphasizes learning by doing. Unlike the traditional approach of separating lecture and lab sections of courses, Landmark College lab course integrate those experiences in a modular approach that provides opportunities for students to construct knowledge for themselves.  Students also have the opportunity to develop laboratory techniques prior to engaging in internship experiences either with an industry partner or as part of a faculty member’s research. The BA-LS program culminates in a capstone experience that allows students to work in partnership with faculty in their research. The STEM department’s instructional philosophy of experiential learning allows students at every level to develop critical thinking skills while providing broad, deep and state-of-the-art training in life science disciplines.  These elements form the foundation for the program’s brand and competitive distinction.

To earn the BS-LS, students must complete 120 credits which includes the general education core (24 credits not met by major requirements), 70 credits of major requirements (19 credits also meet general education requirements), and 26 credits of open electives. Students must complete at least 45 credits at the 3000/4000 level.
