Business Studies, A.A.

The Associate of Arts in Business Studies (AA-Bus) degree prepares students to seek entry-level managerial positions or to continue on into the B.A. Communication and Entrepreneurial Leadership program or transfer into a B.A. Business program at another institution. Through our unique hands-on approach to business studies, which includes a required internship, students develop a basic knowledge of business needed for an entry-level administrative support or managerial position.

Graduates in this program should be able to demonstrate abilities in four categories:

Business Fundamentals

  • Describe how the U.S. business system is organized
  • Distinguish the ways business influences change

Leadership Skills

  • Apply management principles to achieve organizational goals
  • Apply management concepts to achieve organizational objectives
  • Use interpersonal skills to interact as a team
  • Demonstrate decision making skills

Basic Marketing Theory

  • Describe the marketing function in U.S. business
  • Demonstrate consumer and business decision making

Quantitative Reasoning

  • Explain Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Relate financial principles to business and personal decision making
  • Apply micro- and macroeconomic principles to business and human behavior

Program Requirements:


To earn the A.A. in Business Studies degree, students must complete 61 credits.

Open Electives


A maximum of 15 elective credits may be applied to the degree.
