The Associate of Science in Computer Science (AS-CS) is a pathway for students to enter the computer science field (e.g., software developer, computer hardware engineer, computer systems analyst, entrepreneur, information security, computer programmer, etc.) or progress to pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline. These exciting fields and contribute to technological advancement and innovation. Instruction in computer science courses is project-based and highly interactive to encourage student exploration. The curriculum includes mathematics, programming, software design, and database design as applied to existing and emerging computer system technologies. The requirements for the associate degree in Computer Science are the same for the first two years in the B.S. in Computer Science. 

Upon completion of the Associate of Science in Computer Science degree, students will be able to

  • Apply fundamental programming concepts and Object-Oriented Programming principles to design, implement, and troubleshoot simple programs or applications.
  • Select and implement data structures to resolve computational problems.
  • Manipulate diverse forms of input data and generate corresponding output through data processing techniques and algorithms.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills by applying logical reasoning to analyze and solve basic computational challenges.

To earn the Associate of Science in Computer Science degree, students must complete 61 credits.

CSC2741 Database Design  

CSC2638 Data Structures and Algorithms  

MAT2731 Introduction to Calculus  OR MAT2732 Calculus I  

2000+ level Computer Science elective

STEM or Professional Studies elective
